Sodium borate buffer has a concentration of 1.0M and a pH of 9.0. It is a powder blend of sodium borate decahydrate and boric acid. Sodium borate is also known as borax and is a mineral and a salt of boric acid. Besides being used as a buffer, it is also used as a fire retardant, anti-fungal compound, and many more. The decahydrate, a hydrate whose solid contains 10 molecules of crystallized water per molecule, is sufficiently stable and used as the primary standard for acid base titrimetry.
