Sodium Phosphate 0.1M, pH 6.0

Sodium phosphate buffer has a concentration of 0.1M and a pH of 6.0. It contains 87.7% of NaH₂PO₄ (monobasic, monohydrate) and 12.3% of Na₂HPO₄ (dibasic). Phosphates have a high buffering capacity and are soluble in water. They inhibit many enzymatic reactions and procedures of molecular cloning. Phosphates also precipitate in ethanol making it impossible to precipitate DNA and RNA from buffers that contain large amounts of phosphate ions.
