MES Free Acid

MES, or 4-Morpholineethanesulfonic acid, is a Good's Buffer generally used in plant tissue culture and gel electrophoresis. Because it has a pKa value near physiologial pH, MES is not absorbed through cell membranes. It is essentially transparent to UV light.

MES Free Acid is of >99% purity and is readily soluble in aqueous solutions. Sodium hydroxide and Potassium hydroxide are popular choices for pH adjustment. MES-SDS Running Buffer 20X is an ideal buffer for SDS-PAGE.

MS Medium with MES and Vitamins is a complete plant tissue culture medium that prevents acidification of the sample during culture.
