Carbonate-buffered saline contains 125mM sodium carbonate and 750mM sodium chloride, at a pH 9.0. This buffer has a concentration of 5X. Carbonate buffering system is important in different cellular processes such as its use to maintain the pH level of mammalian blood, the formation of acid in the lumen of the stomach, and to neutralize the pH of the chyme.
