Description

Citrate buffer solution has a 1.0M concentration at a pH of 8.0. Citrate is used as an anticoagulant, a biological buffer, and is often prepared for antigen retrieval of tissue samples. The solution is designed to break protein cross-links, unmasking antigens and epitopes in formalin-fixed and paraffin embedded tissue sections, resulting in enhanced stain intensity of antibodies. Citrate has as a calcium chelator that forms complexes to disrupt the tendency of blood to clot.
