Description

PMSF, or Phenylmethyl Sulfonyl Fluoride, is an irreversible serine protease inhibitor used to prevent the degradation of proteins during extraction. PMSF is also an FAAH (Fatty acid amylase hydrolase) inhibitor. Proteins purified with PMSF may go on to be used in Western Blotting, SDS-PAGE, and other applications.

Most molecular biology applications call for a PMSF concentration of less than 1mM. It degrades quickly in aqueous solutions, even more so in alkaline pH. PMSF should be prepared as a stock solution in Isopropanol and diluted just before use in lysis buffer preparation.
