Description

Arachis hypogaea agglutinin (PNA) semi pure is extracted and isolated from peanuts. PNA consists of four subunits, each approximately 27 kDa in molecular weight. The lectin has an isoelectric point between pH 5.5 and 6.5 and exhibits carbohydrate specificity for Galβ3GalNAc, with galactose as the eluting sugar. While galactose and lactose are poor inhibitors, the disaccharide Galβ(1->3)GalNAc and desialylated human erythrocyte N-substance (T-antigen) are potent inhibitors of PNA.

Although extracts of Arachis hypogaea do not agglutinate untreated or trypsin-treated human erythrocytes, PNA can agglutinate neuraminidase-treated human red blood cells. This lectin is useful for clinical determination of T-polyagglutinability of erythrocytes, probing cell membranes of normal and malignant cells, characterizing tumor-specific antigens on malignant cells, and fractionating stem cells in mice for bone marrow transplantation across histocompatibility barriers.

Recommended Usage: Standardize the concentrations based on the target sample. Recommended dilution 10-60 µg/ml in Tris HCL pH 7.4 containing 1mM CaCl2 and 0.5 mM MnCl2, 50 mM NaCl. Less than 60 µg / ml will agglutinate neuraminidase treated human erythrocytes.

Storage Instruction: To prevent degradation and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, aliquot your product into small, single-use volumes and store them at -20°C
