Description

Iris hybrid agglutinin (IRA) is isolated from Dutch iris bulbs and consists of two peptide chains (27,000 and 34,000) linked by disulfide bonds. With an isoelectric point between pH 7.2 and 7.4, IRA agglutinates both native and trypsin-treated rabbit erythrocytes but not human erythrocytes, displaying specificity for blood group O while also agglutinating A and B erythrocytes. This lectin is specific for N-acetylgalactosamine and elutes with GalNAcα1-3Galβ-O. Noninhibitory sugars, such as GalNAc α1-3[L-Fuc α2] Gal and GalNAc α1-3GalNAc, indicate that a free equatorial hydroxyl group at the C-2 position of the penultimate galactose is crucial for binding, while acetamido or fucosyl groups at this position cause steric hindrance, inhibiting binding.

Recommended Usage: Recommended dilutions of 0.5 – 10 μg/ml in 1XPBS pH 7.4.  IRA Lectin (1-20 μg/ml) will agglutinate rabbit erythrocytes, and neuraminidase treated Human A, B & O cells.

Storage Instruction: To prevent degradation and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, aliquot your product into small, single-use volumes and store them at -20°C
