Description

Artocarpus integrifolia Lectin (AIA) is purified by fractionation and has a tetrameric two-chain structure consisting of four identical protomers, with an isoelectric point of pH 7.8. This lectin exhibits specificity for blood group types O (+SA) and T. Jacalin is classified as a galactose-specific lectin and elutes with galactose or melibiose. A post-translational proteolytic modification provides Jacalin with a novel carbohydrate-binding site at the N terminus of the α-chain. The carbohydrate-binding specificity of AIA for the Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen (TF-Galß1-3GalNAc) suggests antitumor potential, as this antigen is present in over 85% of human carcinomas. Jacalin has demonstrated antiproliferative effects on colonic epithelial cells when administered to carcinogen-exposed mice, indicating potential in colorectal cancer treatment. Possible anticancer pathways include COX-2 inhibition and apoptotic or necrotic cell death induced by high levels of TNF-α from Jacalin-activated macrophages. Additionally, Jacalin may be explored in SARS-CoV2 research, as it can recognize the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the virus and induce a conformational change. Potent inhibitors of jacalin include D-galactose, ß-Met-Gal, and 2-deoxy-α-D-galactose. This product is available in a stable lyophilized form.

Recommended Usage: Recommended dilutions of 10-60 µg / ml in 1XPBS. Less than 1 mg / ml can agglutinate neuraminidase treated by human erythrocytes.

Storage Instruction: To prevent degradation and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, aliquot your product into small, single-use volumes and store them at -20°C

Application

Mitogenic stimulation. Immunocytochemistry. Cell typing. Glycobiology.
