Description

Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with activity against many Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It is very ototoxic and is restricted to oral use for intestinal infections. Neomycin binds to ribosomal subunit and inhibits protein synthesis by blocking Ca2+ channels. Neomycin is used as a selective agent for the incorporation of the APH3’ gene.
