Nonidet P-40 Substitute

Nonidet P-40, or NP-40, is a non-ionic surfactant used to solubilize membrane proteins. As a non-denaturing detergent, it is useful for protein purification. NP-40 is a common substitute for octylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol. Nonidet P-40 has been shown to reduce background noise in mass spectrometry and in situ hybridization.

Biotechnology Grade Nonidet P-40 is generally used at a 1-2% concentration in lysis buffer preparation. bioWORLD carries a number of high quality lysis buffers, wash buffers, and permeating solutions that contain NP-40.
